The Tualatin Valley Garden Club is a diverse group of plant-lovers dedicated to celebrating gardening, fostering community, and promoting continued education about home horticulture. In addition to regular monthly meetings, members have the opportunity to participate in several events such as the Hillsboro Saturday Farmers' Market, public pruning classes, harvest festivals, and upkeep at the Lloyd Baron Rhododendron Garden and other local community garden spaces.Â

Hal has been a member for the last five years and in those five years has brought many contributions to the club! He's the program director for speaker recruitment (in addition to Vice President!) and will always love to get your ideas on new voices to bring for club presentations. The best part of TVGC for Hal is the camaraderie that the club can bring to your growing space. Hal can be caught saying that his gardening superpower is growing weeds like you can't believe, but others might disagree. He is a believer of grown cannabis as medicine and would love to speak with like-minded members at club events. Also, ask him about those flowers he brought to the Harvest Festival!

Melodie has been a member of TVGC for about 20 years and is the second generation of her family to join after her father. In the beginning when she had inherited his large tomato beds, she joined to take advantage of space at the club farmer's market stall. In addition to helping at the stall, she has been our club meeting secretary for the last couple of years. In addition to tomatoes at the stall, you can find her with lots of summer produce favorites - with summer squash and onions being some of her specialties. Her favorite thing about club membership is the vast array of horticulture knowledge that each club member brings to the table - there's always more to learn!

Cathy joined TVGC about 14 years ago and has spent the last eight years volunteering her time on the board. Some of her favorite things to grow include a large annual flowerbed (the more colors the better!) in their backyard during the summer, and in fall you can find her behind the farmer's market stand selling gourd and miniature pumpkins. While she is passionate about growing, her favorite thing about TVGC remains the friendships that she's made with other garden club members!

Brady joined TVGC in 2010 as the second generation of his family to participate after his parents originally joined in 1976. You can often find him at the Downtown Hillsboro Farmers' Market on Saturdays where he might be selling his specialties - basil, sweet potatoes, and ardenberries (thornless blackberries originally developed right here in Hillsboro). In addition to the gardening, the nice people and great food at potlucks keeps Brady happy in TVGC. Even as a member now living further out from the city, he's making plans to stay active as our remote treasurer!

Lucinda has been a participating member of TVGC since the late 1970s and brings a wealth of gardening knowledge to the club. That continuing education on home horticulture (and the fellowship found along the way!) have been her favorite parts of her experience in the club. As a gardener Lucinda likes to experiment with different planting themes every year - sometimes that might be over a dozen variety of eggplant in a year (the small white ones were the best), plants from the American south, or even ancient grains! She loves meeting new people and learning about them, so please feel welcome to ask about her experiments at the next club meeting!
