Tualatin Valley Garden Club (TVGC) maintains a market stall at the Saturday Hillsboro Farmers' Market in downtown Hillsboro for members to sell their surplus garden produce and plant starts. Club members helped to organize the first market in 1982 and have been proudly selling their homegrown produce ever since.
Any home harvested product is eligible to be sold. For selling of eggs and honey please visit the Hillsboro Farmers' Market website for market rules and regulations about health and safety requirements. TVGC does not have a scale available for selling produce per pound and all produce should be sold either price per or in some sort of packaging that denote quantity. Produce bags are available for customers to receive their produce in if club members would like to reuse packaging utilized to denote quantity. If you would like to retain your original packaging, it is recommended that the member stay in the booth to make sure that this is done properly.
For specific dates and times of when the market is open this year, please visit the Hillsboro Farmers' Market website. The market stall setup begins at 6:30AM each Saturday during the summer. While helping with set up and tear down of the stall is not required to sell through the market stall, it is highly recommended that individuals do so at least periodically through the year to contribute to overall labor required to maintain the stall,
Before the start of each market day at 9:00AM, members will complete a form indicating how many items of each product they have placed for sale and at what price. Some level of communal price setting will be done if multiple members are selling similar items. All revenue throughout the market day will be collected by the club. At the end of the market day when remaining product is to be picked up by participating members, the amount remaining will be added to the initial product form. The difference will be used by the club to determine what payout will be made to each member. 10% of all revenue will be withheld by the club to pay for annual market stall fees and club insurance.
The club will tally all sales from the previous market week and calculate the payout to each member. Payouts are available in cash at the next week's market day. For the final market day of the year, payouts will be done at the next club meeting the member attends.
Members are not required to remain at the stall for the entire open period for the stall but they are required to be present when the market ends to complete the product form and take all remaining products back into their possession. The stall must be adequately staffed throughout each market day and participating members are strongly encouraged to commit to staffing the stall for at least some portion of the summer season.
At the beginning of each year the club will hold a special information session for members interested in selling at the market stall. Please refer to the club calendar and email notifications for when this session will be held. If you have joined mid-year and would like to participate please email tvgclub@gmail.com to request more information.
Hillsboro Farmers' markets have a distinct set of rules and regulations that assist with the management of the market and provide compliance with local and state agencies. A full and comprehensive list of rules and regulations can be found in the Vendor Handbook.
The vendor checklists and most recent handbooks can be found at the Hillsboro Farmers' Market website. We recommend members new to participating in the market stall take the time to review the relevant information provided by the market organization.
